To acquire or request a newer MSDS for a product:Note: This feature is available only to users with administrative permissions (see specifics below).
When you require a new revision of a product's MSDS, the availability of the new revision determines how you proceed:
If the new revision is available from IHS Dolphin Online or other MSDS collection: Acquire it directly. Depending on your system configuration, the new revision is either immediately added to your product list or sent to IHS for data indexing and then delivered to your product list in a future data update. Your company is billed appropriately for the purchase.
Note: This operation is available both to administrators and to inventory assistants with sufficient permissions. It has the same effect as acquiring an MSDS when searching IHS Dolphin Online. The acquired MSDS is added to your system's record of all IHS Dolphin Online acquisitions.
If the new revision is not available from IHS Dolphin Online: Request that IHS find the new revision for you. If IHS can acquire the new revision from its manufacturer, it is delivered to your product list in a future data update. Your company is billed appropriately for the purchase.
Note: This operation is available to administrators only. It has the same effect as ordering an MSDS from IHS. While on order, the MSDS appears in the list of MSDSs currently on order from IHS.
To acquire or request a newer MSDS for a product:
Starting at the Product Information page
Click the EDIT button at the top of the display.
Note: This button appears only when you are logged in as a) an administrator, or b) an inventory assistant with permission to edit product data.
The Information Administration page opens, showing the areas of product data you can edit.
Look in the MSDS area, which may (depending on your permissions) show one of the following two messages:
IHS has a newer version of this MSDS available. Click here to get it. This means a newer revision is readily available in IHS Dolphin Online or another external MSDS collection.
To acquire this new MSDS revision: Click the message. This opens the new MSDS revision for your inspection. To acquire it for your product list, click Acquire in the upper right. This displays the acquisition price; to confirm the acquisition, click Yes. Then:
If your system is configured to send new acquisitions to IHS for data indexing, the acquisition is now complete. IHS will add it to your product list in a future data update.
If new acquisitions are added to your product list immediately, you can edit the acquisition now; edit the Product Name, Manufacturer, Revision date, and/or MSDS Text as desired. Then click Finish Acquisition to add the new revision to your product list.
Request that IHS find a newer version of this MSDS for you. This means a newer revision is not readily available in IHS Dolphin Online, but may be available from the product manufacturer.
To request that IHS find a new revision of this MSDS for you: Click the message. This opens the Order an MSDS from IHS display. Enter the Common Name, Manufacturer, and (optionally) Revision Date of the MSDS you are requesting. Click Save to submit the request to IHS. IHS will contact the manufacturer for the requested MSDS; if the MSDS is available, IHS will add it to your product list in a future data update.
